Alzheimer’s disease is a chronic, progressive, and ultimately fatal neurodegenerative disease that causes irreversible loss of mental function. Discovered by a German physician in 1906, Alois Alzheimer, this disease is the most common form of dementia and accounts for at least half of all dementia-related illnesses. Its causes, cures and preventions are still relatively unknown.
